Has anyone ever had to recover data from a drive that went bad? If so, any recommendations????

Depends on how the drive has gone bad. If its a crashed platter, there are a couple things you can try, You can try to flip the drive upside down for one last read. You may not get to read the entire data but you may be able to recover some. Another thing that has been known to help on occasion is to freeze the drive. These are not guarantees but something to try. There is also the option of sending in to a company that recovers data. You will pay big bucks and its also not guarantee, but your odds are pretty good in most cases. Do you find this valuable?

I know this may be late, but are you referring to a harddrive on a pc? If so, is it IDE or SATA? What type of system did it come from?

This was actually an external hard drive. I ended up sending in, but they said data was not recoverable. They could send to another party, but it would cost in the thousands to possibly recover it. Do you find this valuable?
